Kelsie and Cody Family 2023-109.jpg

Hello

Nice to meet ya'! Here's the quick and dirty low-down about me. My love language is good food, witty sarcasm, and cuddles! I'm fairly certain that coffee is running through my veins at this point. My animals are an extension of my family; I talk to them just like they are humans. I live in t-shirts and leggings, changing out the footwear to suit the task at hand. My Story

As a little girl dreaming, I always imagined caring for many animals. I thought at one point I might run a dog rescue or something similar. Until I had my first pig, and then I knew I was going to be a farm girl someday, somehow. Don't worry, dogs are still very prevalent in my life. Three currently run rampant through the yard, and I am always trying to convince Cody for another one.

A little about my human family: I've been married to my husband Cody since 2017. I have a stepson and two daughters that keep me plenty busy. My youngest daughter stays at home with me right now, so I am balancing a full-time job, the blog, the homestead, and a toddler!

We got our first pig, Benelli, from a co-worker's roommate who was looking to rehome his pet mini pig, as he realized the apartment was not the best setting for a squealing piglet. It was perfect timing for us, and we brought him home that same week.

Fun Fact - Benelli's original name was Kevin Bacon, but he did NOT have Kevin vibes, though I appreciated the pun.

Our second pig, Louis, was another "adoptee" from another friend/co-worker whose friend was looking to rehome her pig. She had Louis for around seven years by the time we got him, and she loved him sooooo much. She was looking for a safe home for him, primarily where he wouldn't end up on someone's plate. My friend, Chelsea, knew we already had one pig so she decided to ask me. The rest is history!

My questions of, "Can we get him/her?", have plagued my husband for almost as long as we have been together - nearly a decade!

Now that we have the appropriate space, he has been much more motivated to give in to my pleas for new animals.

This journey isn't just about animals, though.

It only takes one trip to the grocery store to wish you could figure out how to feed your family without selling a kidney to pay for it. A great hobby to help with that is, of course, to grow it yourself.

I have a jungle of house plants, so I am no stranger to caring for plants. But I've never had an actual garden. I am thrilled that I will finally be able to grow and harvest food and serve it to my family... God willing and the creek don't rise!

Cooking is my love language and my favorite hobby, which my husband greatly appreciates. I have been collecting recipes to try once I start harvesting from the garden, and also to try making things from scratch like jams, bread, and more.

I hope this blog provides others with a glimpse into life as a homesteader in a way that is simple and realistic. To inspire at least one other person to turn the "I wish I could" into "I am starting" would be a dream come true.
